What Do You Want to Know About Sociology Departments or Programs?
This year, the ASA Research Department will be conducting a new survey of sociology departments and programs. We are asking departments for their input as we begin drafting the 2012 questionnaire. What would you like to see addressed in the new survey? What are the issues that your department or program are currently facing? What information does the Dean want to know?
I think ASA should do some self-assessment by asking existing and potential ASA members about what they expect and would like to see from ASA and to evaluate how well they feel ASA is meeting those expectations and desires. While I think such a survey ought to be directed at individual members, not primarily at the Dept. level, it might be interesting to have a supplemental survey in which Sociology Departments answer those kinds of questions as they pertain to the needs of departments: What do Sociology Depts expect from ASA and what are their perceptions of how well ASA serves those expectations? Maybe ASA does this kind of thing already, but I’ve not seen it if you do.
parental status of faculty. To measure any possible effect of maternal wall we need to know age and number of dependent children.
